NGOs typically operate in resource-constrained environments while trying to maximise the impact of their organisations. Our research suggests that issues around strategy and talent are some of the most important factors that if addressed, can unlock the true potential of NGOs. Leadership teams of NGOs and even social enterprises in India need to consistently take care of these issues but often don’t get the time and the support they need.

Bridgespan’s Nonprofit Development Program leverages our two decades of experience working with NGOs and nonprofits on strategy, leadership, and organisational issues to provide coaching to senior leadership teams in the domains of strategy and talent.

The three-month online program is designed for the leadership teams of NGOs and social enterprises with three to six participants. (A typical team structure includes the CEO / ED, a Project Lead, and other team members.)

The program currently offers two modules to address strategy and talent issues, with a third launching in 2023:

How the Program Works

Coaching support: Bridgespan coaches check in with the participant team lead and CEO on a one-on-one basis, and through workshops, emails and occasional office hours.

  • Total Hours: 10-13 coaching hours available in addition to email facilitation

Team workshops: The team comes together as a group for two to three hours every two weeks to discuss key questions as part of the module.

  • Total Hours: 12-18 hours per person (depending on team size) over the course of the three-month program

Individual Online Lessons: All team members gain access to our self-paced online platform on which they review frameworks, peruse case example, and complete assignments before meeting as a team.

  • Total Hours: 14-16 hours per person over the course of the program

Plenary events and expert sessions: Participants get the opportunity to interact with sector leaders and experts during three cohort-wide events help during the three-month period.

  • Total hours: Five to six hours per person through the course of the program

Peer connect: Through the three cohort-wide events and PL workshops, participant nonprofit and social enterprise teams will have the opportunity to connect with and learn from peers in the cohort.

  • Total Hours: Eight hours per person over the course of the program

The total time commitment per person amounts to 35-40 hours over the course of the program.

The online learning platform allows your time to work at your own pace. While the coaching support ends after the third month, the content on the platform will be available for five months from the start of the program.

Your team is in the driver's seat, while Bridgespan coaches provide support for your project lead via email, check-ins, and one-on-one coaching at critical points throughout the program.

In addition to the above interactions, the program incorporates opportunities to involve your key partners and funders in select meetings.

What Else You Should Know

Our next Achieving Strategic Clarity cohort will start in November 2022, while Investing in Future Leaders cohort will start in August 2022.

  • Applications for both cohorts are open on a rolling basis. The deadline for applying for the August 2022 Investing in Future Leaders cohort is currently closed.
  • Price – INR 8 lacs per nonprofit/ social enterprise team, for a team of four to six members, inclusive of tax (approximately INR 1.6 lacs per team member)
    • There are significant scholarships available to select organizations. We are happy to discuss how your organization can leverage these.
